The Student Innovators Initiative is a statewide leadership and engagement program designed to amplify student voice and strengthen the relevance of career education across West Virginia.
Student Innovators serve as advisors, ambassadors, and changemakers, helping to design meaningful career pathways and build stronger connections between schools, employers, and communities.
By joining, students gain valuable leadership, advocacy, and real-world experiences that prepare them for success in college, careers, and beyond.
Why should I apply?
As a Student Innovator, you will:
- Build leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
- Gain real-world career exploration and workforce experiences
- Represent student voice in shaping CTE and career readiness programs
- Lead projects that make an impact in your school and community
- Earn a $500 stipend for your time and contributions
No prior experience required — just enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to grow!
What will I do?
Student Innovators commit to 2–3 hours per month from October 2025 – June 2026. Activities include:
- Monthly virtual check-ins for updates and collaboration
- Feedback collection from peers (surveys, focus groups, discussions)
- Student-led initiatives (career fairs, podcasts, employer spotlights, awareness campaigns)
- Contribution Project: Design and complete a local project that improves career readiness in your school or community
Who will help me?
Each Student Innovator is paired with a mentor who provides guidance and encouragement throughout the year. Students may select a mentor (a teacher, counselor, or community leader) of their choice, or request to be matched with a mentor through the program.
