Wayne County, WV – The West Virginia Family Engagement Center’s 2019-2020 programming officially kicked off in Wayne County, WV on August 19-20. On Monday evening, Dr. Meaghan Cochrane, State Program Director, and Amber Ravenscroft, Wayne County Family Engagement Specialist, joined families and school staff at Crum Pk8 for their Back to School Night.
"Partnerships are not hard work, but heart work."
Supported by local community organizations, the evening provided families with school supplies, information on their upcoming school year, and introduced WVFEC to approximately 125 families in attendance.
On Tuesday, August 20, Dr. Cochrane and Ms. Ravenscroft visited each of Wayne County’s participating schools – Crum Pk8, Fort Gay Pk8, Tolsia High, and Wayne High – to host an introductory professional development session with each school’s entire staff. During the workshop, the staff was introduced to the Family Engagement Center program, and helped brainstorm unique challenges and opportunities within their own school as it related to family engagement.
"Wayne County, like many West Virginia communities, certainly faces unprecedented challenges in family engagement. I'm encouraged by the commitment and support of our local school staff in making a meaningful difference in the lives of Wayne families. Together, we can grow strong families, and stronger students."
- Amber Ravenscroft, Family Engagement Specialist
Ms. Ravenscroft and school leadership will connect and finalize family engagement programming based on staff ideas in mid-September. Full WVFEC programming will kick-off in each participating school by early October.
