Let's get to know our newest Program Coordinator:

Introduce yourself to our readers. Where are you from, and what is your background?

K: I’m Kiran Boggs, I’m from Spencer, West Virginia and I’m currently finishing up my B.S in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in International Business at West Virginia University (Go Mountaineers!).

During my time at WVU, I’ve found work in empowering communities within West Virginia as a student consultant with WVU SCG where I focused on providing economic and financial analysis for a diverse, high-value client base composed of industry leaders and startups in West Virginia.

I’ve also been involved in Beta Alpha Psi, WVU’s premier business fraternity, as our chapters social media officer and have been involved in my own startup efforts via @Genzillionaire, a college student focused online newsletter that delivers tailored financial literacy lesson in adigestible format.

What excites you most about your new role at The EdVenture Group?

K: As a recent student of West Virginia’s public school system, I’m excited to leverage my role at The EdVenture Group to bring a fresh perspective and help create new resources to ensure students from Appalachia are given the tools needed to succeed and grow within our state.

How have EdV/WVFEC programs inspired you?

K: The EdVenture Group’s programs  such as the Family Engagement Center, have inspired me to ideate and create resources from a high-impact mindset, opting for a tailored approach to ensure all students find relevance and engagement in meaningful ways.

What is a quote or saying that resonates with you, especially as it relates to your views
on education?

K: “The stories we tell ourselves about other cultures are often wrong. But the stories they tell about themselves? Those matter.” – Anthony Bourdain

As a recent student myself, presumptions about the “culture” of student learning destroy truth. Real learning demands engagement – a tenet I intend to embody through listening to communities, students, and subjects on their own terms.

What’s a fun fact about you?

K: I recently just returned from Ireland with a study-abroad group of my peers at WVU, where I had the chance to march in a local Saint Patrick’s Day parade in the village of Carrigart!

What can someone find you doing outside of work hours for fun?

K: Being outside – whether it’s traveling to a new place, skiing on the mountain, or playing pickup basketball I love to connect with nature and soak up the sunshine.
