Let's get to know our newest Senior Program Manager:
What are you most excited about in your new role at The EdVenture Group?
K: I’m very excited by the opportunity to impact and inspire lifelong learning across all aspects of the educational ecosystem—students, staff, families, and the community—through collaborative and innovative efforts with a dedicated wonderful team.
How will your prior experience contribute to your new role at EdV?
K: I have had the incredible opportunity to be entering my 34th year as an education leader. This includes being a public school teacher, principal and executive director for public/nonprofit organizations. I have always been passionate about being directly engaged with the educational communities that I work with and I look forward to using my professional experiences to help create customized solutions for educational institutions.
What is a quote or saying that resonates with you as it relates to your views on the importance of education?
K: Wow! This is tough as there are so many wonderful quotes and sayings that resonate with me and the work that we do! I do like Steve Jobs quote, “Innovation is the ability to see change as an opportunity- not a threat”. For me, this touches on the importance of being able to explore new ideas and pathways to success and not be “stuck” and repeat the same challenges each year.
What is a fun fact about you?
K: I grew up in a singing family and we used to tour the United States singing famous musical tunes and more. I was 4 years old and we did that until I was about 12. My sister went on to be on Broadway and I used the experience to help with being comfortable in front of audiences for presentations, events, etc. in my professional career. Not sure this was always “fun” but it is certainly a fun fact. Ha!
What can somebody find you doing outside of work hours for fun?
K: You can find me hanging out with my wife playing darts , watching movies and going to local eateries. I also love learning more about West Virginia and touring neighboring cities to learn about their history (I am a history buff). Finally, as the photos show, I am so intrigued and respect the various woodland creatures that surround our home. Whether it is raccoons, woodpeckers, snakes or even our little feral cat Penny, that has adopted us and is a great addition to our family.
Kurt's Bio
Kurt Huffman is a Senior Program Manager for The EdVenture Group, bringing over 30 years of experience in education. He began his career as a Kindergarten teacher in 1991 just outside of Columbus, Ohio, where he quickly recognized the significant impact an involved community can have on student success. This realization inspired him to consistently seek innovative ways to engage community and business members throughout his career.
Kurt has served as a K-4 principal, an executive director for public school systems in Ohio and Virginia, and as a leader at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus. He has also taught at the higher education level, guiding master’s degree students in educational leadership. Entering his 34th year in education, Kurt remains a passionate advocate for the importance of aligning all components of the learning ecosystem—home, school, after-school programs, and community—to support the success of students, educators, and families.
Kurt holds a BA in Elementary Education from Wittenberg University and a Master’s in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University. He is licensed in Virginia for Elementary Education PreK-6 and Administration and Supervision PreK-12, and is also a certified Google Sheets creator and editor.
